My advice for a younger me

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Don’t start drinking and start investing immediately.

Maybe to put a little more thought into it I would say; you don’t need to try so hard. Some people will like you and some will not. The difference between the two has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.

Don’t worry so much about finding a partner, the time you believe you are running out of is an illusion. Take your time and get to know people, really know them and you will find the right one.

Listen more than you talk.

Do at least 25 push-ups everyday, and walk as much as you can everywhere you go. For example never take an elevator.

Stop smoking immediately and never look back. The crowd you think you are missing out on you don’t actually need.

Your father will never understand or accept your choices, but don’t worry about it. You don’t really need him to. The only person who you need acceptance and understanding from is yourself.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sometimes you will succeed with ease, sometimes you will fail no matter what you do. The important part isn’t the winning or the losing, it is learning from the process.

Never give up on you dreams.

And I was serious about the sunscreen…..

    • I shamelessly stole that line about sunscreen from the 1997 essay “everybody is free to wear sunscreen” by Baz Luhrmann. It is a hypothetical commencement speech to the graduating class and was turned into a spoken word song in 1999 I believe. Simple words of powerful advice. Thank you for the comment and for reminding me to cite my sources.
